Leaker gives iPhone 18 Pro updates on two design changes

In a week filled with rumors regarding the iPhone Fold, a notable leaker has shared updates on the iPhone 18 Pro, particularly highlighting two significant design changes that could be on the table.

Latest updates indicate iPhone 18 Pro’s design is not yet finalized

In recent posts on Weibo, the leaker known as Digital Chat Station provided insights into the evolving design of the iPhone 18 Pro. The first update concerns the device's Dynamic Island, a feature that has garnered attention since its introduction.

Reports from various sources suggest that Apple is contemplating moving some of the Face ID components beneath the iPhone 18 Pro’s display. This alteration would potentially allow for a Dynamic Island that is approximately 35% smaller than the one seen on the iPhone 17 Pro.

However, Digital Chat Station had previously expressed skepticism about this change. He indicated that while a smaller Dynamic Island was initially part of Apple's plans, the company was also considering reusing molds from the previous year's models, which would result in minimal alterations to the Dynamic Island design.

Today, Digital Chat Station shared an update that suggests Apple is still weighing its options. The leaker mentioned an A/B testing scenario where one prototype would maintain the existing screen mold, while the other would incorporate a 'Mini Dynamic Island' with the Face ID RX components situated beneath the display. This means both design routes are under consideration, and a final decision has yet to be made. If the smaller Dynamic Island does not come to fruition, it would eliminate one of the more anticipated design features of the iPhone 18 Pro.

In a follow-up post addressing inquiries about the rear camera, the leaker noted that the rectangular plateau design would remain consistent with the previous year’s model. However, there will be 'minor adjustments to the body materials and design details' of the rear camera setup.

This likely points to adjustments aimed at achieving a more uniform appearance across aluminum and glass cutouts. The iPhone 17 Pro employed a two-tone design, whereas the upcoming model is expected to have a more seamless aesthetic. Additionally, the color options for the iPhone 18 Pro are anticipated to differ from those of its predecessor.

Given that the iPhone 17 Pro introduced a bold new design, it is unlikely that Apple will implement drastic changes this time around. The latest leaks appear to align with the kind of incremental updates that are customary for most iPhone releases.

As the iPhone 18 Pro’s design continues to evolve, it raises the question of how much these changes will influence users' decisions to upgrade. Feedback from consumers will certainly play a role in Apple's final design choices.
